Notes:
Come out, bring friends, stand up for our right to resist - from Oakland to Iraq. On April 7, 750 community members held a community picket against war profiteers APL and SSA. After closed meetings with these corporations, Oakland Police opened fire on protesters with potentially lethal wooden bullets, metal-shot filled bags and concussion grenades. 3 members of the media, 9 longshore workers and 50 community members were injured.

1. LOGISTICS:

* Vice president position: This position has been
vacant. The consensus among those of us who came to
today's meeting was that (since this is the last
quarter at Foothill for our president, Beth) the VP
position should be held by a student who is going to
be at Foothill for at least a year. By consensus, as
well as his willingness, Sebastian was chosen to be
our VP.

* Regional Committee Meeting: Marian and Sebastian
were selected (by consensus) to represent the Foothill
SFJ chapter at the Regional Committee meeting, which
is taking place this Friday, at the San Jose Peace
Center at 5 PM. This is expected to be a 2 to 3 hour
meeting. A permanent delegation to the Regional
Committee meetings will be chosen at our next meeting
(next Wednesday).

2. SHORT-TERM ACTION:

* LOCKHEED MARTIN - Sunnyvale mass demonstration &
non-violent direct action: Tuesday, April 22, 6AM.
GOALS:
- Disrupt The Business of War Profiteering by using
NON-VIOLENT DIRECT ACTION to shut down corporations
whose executives line their pockets by exporting death
and destruction worldwide.
- Educate by spreading information and awareness about
how weapon manufacturers contribute to misery and
death around the world.
- Contribute to a vibrant & growing peace movement by
applying strong political pressure on government
officials to STOP UNPROVOKED INVASIONS.

3. WEBSITE:

* The domain www.foothillsfj.com has been purchased
for our club. Annual cost is $10. One year of
registration has been paid for.
* Beth will be our webmaster, and everyone is invited
to contribute ideas and suggestions.

4. WHO ARE WE ON CAMPUS:

Everyone contributed to this discussion. Here are some
of the goals and actions that were suggested:
- Getting our name out
- Informing the community - public awareness
- Continue to protest against war and promote peace
- Sponsor a debate or a forum to discuss current
issues, especially the war
- Be careful not to alienate many conservatives who
may "have their hearts in the right place"
- Work on a promotional flyer for our club.

Next meeting will be held next Wednesday at 2:30 PM in
Room 6309.
